What does it mean to join the Magnet AMC 8 team?

Anyone eligible to compete in AMC 8 is highly encouraged to join the team. The AMC 8 team is designed to be a minimal stress environment where the focus is on developing a deeper appreciation and understanding of mathematics. That said, students will be required to complete homework assignments every week, and be expected to dedicate about 5 hours for the team each week. These hours include both in-class lecture and practice, and outside homework and studying. Joining the Magnet AMC 8 team is a great way to get a head start on preparing for the more advanced AMC 10 and AMC 12 competitions, which require a much more rigorous environment and mathematical reasoning.

What does it mean to join the Magnet AMC 10 team?

Since the AMC 10 tests student on critical thinking and advanced problem-solving questions, it is necessary that students who consider joining the Magnet AMC 10 team already have a strong foundation on basic high school Algebra and Geometry concepts. Thus, students who wish to join the team must try out and pass a test that covers basic concepts from Algebra I and Geometry. It is highly encouraged that all students eligible to compete to try out for the team. The AMC 10 team is designed to be a rigorous but fun environment where the focus is on solving unique problems through many different techniques or methods. Students will be required to complete homework assignments every week, and be expected to dedicate about 10 hours for the team each week. These hours include both in-class lecture and practice, and outside homework and studying.

AMC 12

What does it mean to join the Magnet AMC 12 team?

Since the AMC 12 tests student on critical thinking and advanced problem-solving questions, it is necessary that students who consider joining the Magnet AMC 12 team already have a strong foundation on basic high school Algebra, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus concepts. Thus, students who wish to join the team must try out and pass a test that covers basic concepts from Algebra II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and Trigonometry. It is highly encouraged that all students eligible to compete to try out for the team. The AMC 12 team is designed to be a very rigorous, but very exciting, environment where the focus is on solving unique problems with a thorough understanding of advanced mathematical concepts. Students will be required to complete homework assignments every week, and be expected to dedicate about 10 hours for the team each week. These hours include both in-class lecture and practice, and outside homework and studying. Joining the Magnet AMC 12 team is a real challenge, preparing you extremely well for college-level STEM courses, and expanding your mind to further unlock the potential of the human brain.
