Congratulations were in order for those who had participated in the 14th Annual \”2023 SMCHS/IVC Debate Invitational\” on May 13, 2023. This event had been hosted by the Irvine Valley College Debate Team and Santa Margarita Catholic High School, offering students the opportunity to engage in meaningful debates on significant and controversial topics with their peers. We were grateful that you were able to join us for an enriching experience that stimulated and strengthened critical thinking and confident communication skills.

The event featured Open Public Forum Debate (Elementary, Middle School, & High School) as well as Open Lincoln Douglas (Middle and High School only).

This year\’s debate topics were:
• NSDA PF Topic (April 2023): The U.S. government should ban the collection of personal data through biometric recognition technology.
• NSDA LD Topic (April 2023): Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court ought to be term-limited.
